Terminology in the literature is not fully standardised. Papers and product listings use BPC-157, BPC 157, and the longer phrase stable gastric pentadecapeptide BPC 157 interchangeably, and synonyms such as bepecin or PL 14736 appear in older or company-linked publications. Purity claims and reported masses can also differ between sources because peptide preparations may include counterions, residual solvents, or bound water. This variability complicates direct comparison of results across studies and makes the exact identity and grade of a given sample worth verifying. Discussions of the compound should therefore specify the source, salt form, and stated purity where those are known.
BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide composed of fifteen amino acid residues, with the sequence Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val. Its name derives from body protection compound, a term used for a protein fraction identified in human gastric juice. Researchers in Zagreb first reported the pentadecapeptide in the early 1990s and described it as a stable fragment of that larger protein. The compound is also catalogued as PL 14736 and, in some commercial contexts, as bepecin. Its molecular formula is C62H98N16O22 and its monoisotopic mass is approximately 1419 daltons.
Most published work on BPC-157 consists of preclinical studies, including rodent models of tissue injury, gastrointestinal lesions, and vascular or tendon damage, together with in vitro cell assays. Reviews frequently note that the mechanisms proposed in these papers remain incompletely characterised and that findings have not been confirmed in large randomised human trials. The compound is widely sold as a research chemical rather than a licensed medicine, and labels commonly carry a statement that it is not for human use. Whether any of the reported animal effects translate to humans is an open question rather than an established result.
Common synonyms in catalogs include pentadecapeptide BPC 157, BPC157, and the full sequence name. A CAS registry number in the 137525-51-0 range is frequently listed, though the assignment should be verified against the supplier certificate of analysis. The name itself is not a pharmacopoeial designation, and there is no standardized international nonproprietary name. Distinguishing genuine material from related fragments generally requires mass spectrometry, since several truncated sequences share similar chromatographic behavior.

Once dissolved, the material is considerably less stable than the dry solid. Aqueous solutions are usually kept cold and used within a short window, and neutral or mildly acidic buffers are preferred over strongly alkaline conditions. Freeze-thaw cycles promote aggregation and loss of material to container surfaces, so dividing a batch into single-use aliquots is standard. Adsorption to plastic and glass can lower the measured concentration, meaning solution strength may need rechecking before an experiment.
Identity and purity are established with complementary methods rather than one test. Reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography separates the main peak from deletion sequences and oxidized variants, and its area percentage is the usual purity figure. Mass spectrometry confirms the expected molecular mass and can flag truncations or modifications that chromatography alone might miss. Amino acid analysis and peptide mapping add sequence-level confirmation, while residual counter-ion and water content are measured separately.
A freeze-dried sample is generally the most stable form and is commonly held at minus twenty degrees Celsius or lower for long-term keeping, with brief transfers at room temperature. The solid is hygroscopic, so vials are warmed to ambient temperature before opening to prevent condensation from degrading the contents. Light exposure and repeated temperature cycling are both avoided in routine handling. Storage over a desiccant is a common laboratory practice that limits moisture uptake during repeated access.
BPC-157 is normally distributed as a lyophilised powder that ranges from white to off-white in appearance. The peptide dissolves readily in water, normal saline, and common aqueous buffers, and it is poorly soluble in nonpolar solvents such as hexane or vegetable oils. Lyophilised vials take up moisture if left open, which changes the mass of powder in the container and complicates any later weighing. Because the material is handled in small quantities, static and adhesion to glass or plastic can also cause noticeable losses during transfer.
The main chemical liabilities of this sequence are peptide-bond hydrolysis and possible aspartate-related reactions, since the peptide contains aspartic acid residues but no cysteine, methionine, or tryptophan. Absence of those three residues removes the most common oxidation and disulfide pathways from consideration. Studies of related peptides indicate that aspartate isomerisation and aspartimide formation occur most readily at Asp-Gly and Asp-Ala positions, and open questions remain about how quickly those reactions proceed under ordinary laboratory conditions. Storage guidance typically emphasises cool, dry, dark conditions to slow hydrolysis.
Studies suggest that smoking decreases appetite, but did not conclude that overweight people should smoke or that their health would improve by smoking, because this habit is a cause of heart disease. Smoking also decreases weight by overexpressing the gene AZGP1, which stimulates lipolysis. Smoking causes about 10% of the global burden of fire deaths, and smokers are placed at an increased risk of injury-related deaths in general, partly due to also experiencing an increased risk of dying in a motor vehicle crash. Smoking increases the risk of symptoms associated with Crohn's disease (a dose-dependent effect with use of greater than 15 cigarettes per day). There is some evidence for decreased rates of endometriosis in infertile smoking women, although other studies have found that smoking increases the risk in infertile women. There is little or no evidence of a protective effect in fertile women. Some preliminary data from 1996 suggested a reduced incidence of uterine fibroids, but overall the evidence is unconvincing. Current research shows that tobacco smokers who are exposed to residential radon are twice as likely to develop lung cancer as non-smokers. As well, the risk of developing lung cancer from asbestos exposure is twice as likely for smokers than for non-smokers. New research has found that women who smoke are at significantly increased risk of developing an abdominal aortic aneurysm, a condition in which a weak area of the abdominal aorta expands or bulges, and is the most common form of aortic aneurysm.
Polyamides can also be synthesized from dinitriles using acid catalysis via an application of the Ritter reaction. This method is applicable for preparation of nylon 1,6 from adiponitrile, formaldehyde and water. Additionally, polyamides can be synthesized from glycols and dinitriles using this method as well.
Chemical composition distribution Chemical composition distribution (CCD) together with the molar mass distribution (MMD) and their interdependence define the microstructure of a polyolefin. CCD is often the most discriminating feature of a complex polyolefin. Some instruments in Polymer Char's range are available for this purpose:
According to Goodrich, both lineages evolved from an earlier stem group, Protosauria ("first lizards") in which he included some animals today considered reptile-like amphibians, as well as early reptiles. In 1956, D.M.S. Watson observed that the first two groups diverged very early in reptilian history, so he divided Goodrich's Protosauria between them. He also reinterpreted Sauropsida and Theropsida to exclude birds and mammals, respectively. Thus his Sauropsida included Procolophonia, Eosuchia, Millerosauria, Chelonia (turtles), Squamata (lizards and snakes), Rhynchocephalia, Crocodilia, "thecodonts" (paraphyletic basal Archosauria), non-avian dinosaurs, pterosaurs, ichthyosaurs, and sauropterygians. In the late 19th century, a number of definitions of Reptilia were offered. The biological traits listed by Lydekker in 1896, for example, include a single occipital condyle, a jaw joint formed by the quadrate and articular bones, and certain characteristics of the vertebrae. The animals singled out by these formulations, the amniotes other than the mammals and the birds, are still those considered reptiles today. The synapsid/sauropsid division supplemented another approach, one that split the reptiles into four subclasses based on the number and position of temporal fenestrae, openings in the sides of the skull behind the eyes. This classification was initiated by Henry Fairfield Osborn and elaborated and made popular by Romer's classic Vertebrate Paleontology. Those four subclasses were:

=== Transcriptional activities === The shorter p110 CUX1 isoform stably interacts with DNA and can function as transcriptional repressor or activator depending on promoter context. Transcription and cell-based assays demonstrated a role for p110 CUX1 in stimulating cell cycle progression and cell proliferation, strengthening of the spindle assembly checkpoint, ensuring an efficient DNA damage response, promoting cell migration and invasion, and increasing resistance to apoptotic signals. Of note, the p200 CUX1 protein was inactive in all these transcriptional and cell-based assays. p110 CUX1 has been demonstrated to bind the protective allele of FTO single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) rs8050136 or rs1421085 highly associated with human obesity, and promote the expression of RPGRIP1L. RPGRIP1L hypomorphism in mice results in obesity, suggesting an important role of CUX1 in body weight regulation.
cuvette A type of small container used in spectroscopy experiments, usually made of plastic, glass, or quartz and designed to hold a sample (typically a liquid) for measurement inside a spectrometer. Cuvettes should be as clean and transparent as possible to minimize interference with the beams of light on which spectroscopic techniques rely.
Because desmosine is most prevalent in mature elastin, it can be consistently located and measured in urine samples after elastin breakdown in the human body. Desmosine does not exist elsewhere within the body, nor can it be sourced from elsewhere outside the body, which isolates it as a key marker for elastin breakdown. Indeed, desmosine "has been studied as a marker of elastin breakdown in several chronic pulmonary conditions, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, and chronic tobacco use." In one study, hyperoxic mice that formed alveoli as a result of lung maturation also showed drastic changes in collagen and elastin within the lungs, as well as a change in cross-linking. In another study, deceased patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) were reported to have higher concentrations of desmosine in their urine than those patients who survived ARDS, and higher concentrations of desmosine revealed that "more severe damage to the extracellular matrix occurred in the most critically ill [acute lung injury] patients." However, it has been argued in the same study that desmosine does "not correlate well with markers of disease severity," correlating only weakly with age.
The effects on the federal budget of the aging population and rapidly growing health care costs are already apparent over the 10-year horizon—especially for Social Security and Medicare—and will grow in size beyond the baseline period. Unless laws governing fiscal policy were changed—that is, spending for large benefit programs was reduced, increases in revenues were implemented, or some combination of those approaches was adopted—debt would rise sharply relative to GDP after 2027. During June 2012, Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke recommended three objectives for fiscal policy: 1) Take steps to put the federal budget on a sustainable fiscal path; 2) Avoid unnecessarily impeding the ongoing economic recovery; and 3) Design tax policies and spending programs to promote a stronger economy. President Barack Obama in June 2012 stated:

The figure shows the main components of an APPI source: a nebulizer probe which can be heated to 350–500 °C, an ionization region with a VUV photon source, and an ion-transfer region under intermediate pressure that introduces ions into the MS analyzer. The analyte(s) in solution from the HPLC flows into the nebulizer at a flow rate that can range from μL/min to mL/min range. The liquid flow is vaporized by nebulization and heat. The vaporized sample then enters into the radiation zone of the VUV source. Sample ions then enter into the MS interface region, frequently a capillary through the combination of a decreasing pressure gradient and electric fields. APPI has been commercially developed as dual ionization sources more commonly with APCI, but also with ESI.
On 4 December 2024, the Lebanese Health Ministry reported that since 7 October 2023, Israeli attacks killed 4,047 people, including 316 children and 790 women, and injured 16,638 others. Among the dead were at least 41 Lebanese Army soldiers and more than 200 medics. Several UNIFIL workers and peacekeepers were injured in numerous attacks by both Israel and Lebanese militias. By 25 November 2025, the Lebanese Health Ministry reported that Israeli attacks during the ceasefire had killed 331 people and injured 945. The UN said that at least 127 fatalities were civilians. At the height of the conflict in October 2024, more than 1.2 million Lebanese were displaced, including between 200,000 and 300,000 who fled into Syria.
All meitnerium isotopes are extremely unstable (radioactive); in general, heavier isotopes are more stable than the lighter. The most stable known isotope, 278Mt (half-life 4.5 seconds), is also the heaviest known. The unconfirmed 282Mt is even heavier and seems to have a longer half-life, 67 seconds. With a half-life of 0.8 seconds, the next most stable known isotope is 270Mt. 276Mt and 274Mt have half-lives of 0.62 and 0.64 seconds respectively. 277Mt, created as the final decay product of 293Ts for the first time in 2012, was observed to undergo spontaneous fission, half-life 5 milliseconds. Preliminary data analysis considered the possibility that this fission is instead from 277Hs, for it also has a half-life of a few milliseconds, and could come from undetected electron capture somewhere in the decay chain. This possibility was later deemed very unlikely based on observed decay energies of 281Ds and 281Rg and the short half-life of 277Mt, although there is still some uncertainty of the assignment. Regardless, the rapid fission of 277Mt and 277Hs is strongly suggestive of a region of instability for superheavy nuclei with N = 168–170. The existence of this region, characterized by a decrease in fission barrier height between the deformed shell closure at N = 162 and spherical shell closure at N = 184, is consistent with theoretical models.

BPC-157 is a synthetic fifteen-amino-acid peptide whose sequence corresponds to a fragment of a protein found in human gastric juice. It is studied mainly in preclinical research and is not an approved pharmaceutical product in major markets. Materials sold for laboratory use are typically labelled as research chemicals.
No medicines regulator in the United States or the European Union has approved BPC-157 as a therapeutic product. Presenting it as a drug or as a dietary supplement ingredient would generally not match its regulatory status. Availability as a research chemical does not imply clinical approval.
Published reports rest largely on animal models and cell culture rather than controlled human trials. Review articles describe the proposed mechanisms as incompletely understood. Conclusions about effects in humans therefore remain tentative.
It is a synthetic peptide built from fifteen amino acids, with a mass of roughly 1419 daltons. The sequence is reported to match a fragment of a protein present in human gastric juice. It is not a naturally circulating hormone.
